Interpretation

Many people have found themselves in a situation where a brief meeting to clarify final details ends in embarassing misunderstandings. Most people realise the necessity of having an interpreter present in court or at big international conferences, but a qualified interpreter can also ensure the required understanding in other contexts and ensure that meetings run smoothly.

The interpreter's task is to help the communication process. You can contribute by sending information in advance so that the interpreter has a chance to prepare.

An interpreter must observe the ethical guidelines for interpreters, and he/she has a duty of confidentiality about personal and business matters of which he/she learns in connection with an interpretation job.

Allegro emphasises using qualified interpreters, i.e. Government Authorised Interpreters with interpretation experience/education from Norway or abroad, authorised interpreters and interpreters who have completed training. Since the authorisation scheme was introduced in 1997, over 110 interpreters have received government authorisation embracing 18 languages. Over 600 interpreters have completed the one-year training course in public service interpreting, offered in approx. 30 languages (as of December 2006). Sometimes an interpreter has to be brought in from another part of the country or from abroad.

Our interpreters are frequently used by the police, the courts and the business community, and they have experience of simultaneous interpretation and consecutive interpretation at conferences and seminars.
