In fact, we are not the only ones who think so: According to several studies on the effects of having a dog in the workplace, researchers have concluded that pets have ‘calming effects, reduce blood pressure, lower stress, and make employees more cordial and productive’ (University of Southern California).
And there’s more: ‘the benefits of dog-friendly work places may manifest as lower rates of absenteeism and higher worker morale and productivity’ (Dogs in the Workplace: A Review of the Benefits and Potential Challenges). Several enterprises have taken heed, and multi-national companies such as Amazon and Google have a policy of ‘dog-friendly’ offices. At the Amazon headquarters in Seattle, 7,000 dogs ‘go to work’ every day to ensure the premises are overflowing with cuteness. Dogs have always been important to Amazon, so much so that a Welsh corgi named Rufus was given the honour of clicking the computer mouse to launch the very first Amazon.com pages. So if it’s good enough for Amazon…. Eloise Egenberg Photo by Evelyn Geissler on Unsplash Comments are closed.
